A new and truly memorable experience for Summit and Eagle Counties!!!

Paragliding is one of the newest and fastest growing sports in the world. The exhilaration of soaring on an un-powered wing is one of the most unbelievable feelings there is. If you've ever wondered what a bird must feel when flying free, then this is it! If you want to soar like an eagle then here's how!

A Paraglider is a flexible wing, which packs away into a backpack and is laid out on the ground before take-off. As you move forward the wing rises and inflates and maintains its form with air being constantly forced into the wing in flight, since, as with all gliders the wing is always moving forward and downwards relative to the surrounding air. With a tandem flight you are suspended from the wing by a series of lines and are seated in a comfortable harness in front of your instructor/pilot. In the summer time you can take advantage of the thermal activity to fly in rising air and fly all the way to cloud base and make long distance cross-country flights. The flights vary depending on conditions and the morning flights will usually be without too much thermic activity, and the evening or afternoon flights being longer with more thermals to play in!

Your instructor/pilots are all USPGA qualified for Instruction and Tandem Flights. Safety is always a major concern as with any form of flight, and if any unfavorable conditions exist then your flight may be postponed or canceled. However, as with ANY adventure sport, there are inherent dangers and you must be willing to take on the responsibility for your own safety.

These flights are available every day and take off from Bellyache Ridge in the Edwards/Beaver Creek area in the mornings and from Wolcott near Vail in the afternoons. Obviously all flights are weather dependent. In the winter-time the air is generally remarkably smooth and stable and you will fly out gently over the slopes and have a true birds-eye view of the valley below. If you need a little more adrenaline rush then ask your pilot to perform some "Wing-Overs" or the really thrilling "Spiral Dive", which when performed to the extreme will "lock" the wing into a dive with the wing flying vertically!!! Make sure you are ready for that one!

Whether you want to experience the tranquility of soaring with the birds, or an adrenaline rush that I guarantee you've never even come close to before then try this out - you will never forget it. Be careful though, in the paragliding world the sport is known to be more like a disease than an addiction - once you start you just can't stop!

Activity Notes

Due to mountain conditions flights generally take place at 8 am, 9 am and 5 pm when the air is less turbulent. These times can vary day to day so please be patient. You will only take off when conditions are right.

The evening flights will usually have some "magic lift" associated with them, where the heat of the day releases from the trees and the flights can be wonderfully smooth and a lot longer.

The flight times noted above are variable and these are only to be used as an indication/guideline.

Please dress warm - you will essentially be stationary with a constant wind in your face! DO NOT forget your camera - you will want proof for your friends back home!
