Dog Sledding - Copper Mountain No need to go to Alaska to experience the fun and freedom of dog sledding, you can enjoy this unique experience right here in the high country of Colorado. You will have the opportunity to try out all facets of dog sledding including mushing your own team of dogs! The regular tour begins with an explanation of sledding including how to run the sleds and handle the beautiful Alaskan and Siberian Huskies. You will then head out on the prepared trail system through the Upper Arkansas River Valley. Everyone (up to 6 people per sled) gets a chance to mush the dogs, ride the sled, and ride with the guide and pick-up additional pointers to improve your technique. No one is required to mush the dogs so the tour is perfect for young and old alike, however, this activity is not recommended for children younger than 3 years old. For those of you looking for a little more than the regular tour we can offer a special extended 2 1/4 hour long tour (Jan 15th – Mar 15th) on a private trail system, covering twice the distance (10 miles) and stopping at a secluded mountain tent for some hot chocolate. Here you will have much more interaction with the dog teams, harnessing them, hooking them up etc. You have much more time to actually experience mushing and controlling your dog team (you are actually on the trails for 1 hour 45 minutes). We can run up to 6 teams close together on this tour. Each team can accommodate up to 700lbs so about 4 Adults, or a combo of Adults and Kids, but there is a 3 person minimum to run the tour. This Tour is available at 12:45 pm for “drive up” guests only. Alternatively you can opt for a “Tag sled” (dual sleds pulled by a larger dog team of 10-12 dogs). We run up to four of these “double sleds” on a separate trail system from our standard tours. There are up to 4 people per sled – under 600lbs max weight. There is one guide controlling the two teams, so you have a lot more “Mushing” and Riding time. We will make stops together during the tour so we can switch folks around between sleds etc. The tour area offers an opportunity to see some of the Rocky Mountain Region that you might otherwise miss. You will have views of Mount Elbert and Mount Massive – the 2 highest peaks in Colorado as well as the beautiful Sawatch and Collegiate Peaks ranges. So don’t forget your camera! Remember to dress for the weather - hats, gloves, sunglasses/goggles, and warm clothing, preferably in layers so that you can regulate the temperature are a must. Tours are run on a very tight time schedule, so be sure to be on time for this one. Tours go out throughout the day every 15 minutes between 9 & 9:45am, 11 & 11:45 am, 1 & 1:45pm, & 3 & 3:45pm. Guests driving themselves should be at the base area 30 minutes before tour times.
Children 3 years old and younger are not recommended to take this tour.

Free transportation can be provided at designated spots in Vail, Frisco, Copper, and Breckenridge.
Adult sized snow bibs and boots are available at no extra charge.
You MUST bring eye protection (Goggles or Sunglasses) REQUIRED for all participants!!!
9 year old children and up can mush at the guides discretion.
